Saving Money When At Home With Kids!

Unless you are a millionaire or rich, I believe this topic is discussed in many households every day. From all the mums I have met, most families struggle when on maternity leave, and that's also why most of my friends went back to work much earlier than me. I was planning on staying at home with Isabelle for a year, and then go back to work. That was the plan. But when I found out the nursery fees in our area, we agreed I would stay at home until Isabelle started school, as my salary would be just paying for her fees. I miss my teaching job, but spending time with Isabelle is much more important to me.

Not earning any money was very new to me and getting used to it wasn't easy at all. I have always been very good with money and decided I could help us with trying not to spend on unnecessary things. At the end of each month me and my husband sit down and calculate how much we spent and usually we find out that we managed not to spend all his wages. I have set up a new online savings account and have been putting in all the extra money saved. We were also getting my maternity pay until Isabelle turned 3 years old, as I am a Czech national, and all that money went into the account as well.

How do I save money? I love shopping online, and am a bargain hunter. You can save a lot of money when getting things from e-bay or Amazon. Also, I usually buy things when they are on sale. Sometimes it means buying summer clothes in winter, or the other way. My husband was laughing when I bought a new pair of skis last summer, but they were half price!
